Aromatherapy is the use of essential oils for physical, emotional or spiritual healing. Products which contain fragrance oils, which are synthetic oils, are therefore not aromatherapy products and have no healing properties.
Essential oils are extracted from certain varieties of trees, shrubs, flowers, grasses, and herbs. The usual method of extraction is steam distillation but other methods are used for certain plants whose components cannot be extracted by distillation. Essential oils are very complex substances containing, on average, a hundred different chemical components. Many essential oils have anti viral, antibiotic, and anti fungal properties which make them ideal for air fresheners, ointments and balms. However they are very potent and like any medicine should be used with respect and caution. You can be assured that our products contain only pure essential oils and other natural ingredients and that the concentration of essential oils in our products is appropriate for its use.
Because of the potency of essential oils, pregnant women, nursing mothers, and infants should not use them unless the product is specially formulated for their use. People with hypertension or a history of epilepsy should avoid products made with eucalyptus or rosemary essential oils.
For more information on aromatherapy, two excellent books are The Complete Book of Essential Oils and Aromatherapy by Valerie Ann Worwood and Aromatherapy: A Lifetime Guide to Healing with Essential Oils by Valerie Gennari Cooksley. They are widely available at larger bookstores.
