Lavender - It's More Than Just Another Pretty Smell

Lavender (lavandula angustifolia) is the herb that is used the most in Coyote Cove products - by far. In fact, it finds its way into almost everything we make! And with good reason. This French herb, whose scent has been called "God's gift to earth" has a myriad of medicinal properties.

The word lavender comes from the Latin lavare, meaning to wash, and it was used in ancient Rome as a fragrance for the bath. Today, lavender soap is still extremely popular. But lavender is also a fungicide, antiseptic, analgesic, anti-depressant, anti-rheumatic, anti-viral, and bactericidal. Oh, and it heals burns. Basically, lavender is like chocolate - it's good for whatever ails you, and should be taken daily!

At every craft show that we go to I am asked "Does that really work?" about our Headache Ointment. The answer is yes, and lavender is the reason why. The lavender-peppermint combination is very effective, and although the literature would claim it's only for stress headaches, I have many customers who use it for sinus and even migraine headaches, with good results.

Lavender is well known to be relaxing and to promote natural sleep. So it takes a starring role in our Sleepwell Pillow Spray, along with ylang ylang and petitgrain.

Children in rural French villages are regularly given lavender baths to keep them in good health. As an antiseptic it has an important role in skin care. I use it in the Naturally Clean waterless hand cleaner, and in the Healing Salve, to keep skin clean and healthy and microbe-free.

Lavender is used in our Joint Cream and Muscle Relief Oil, along with rosemary and other essential oils, because it soothes muscle strain and spasm as well as rheumatic pain.

Like tea tree, lavender is a fungicide, which is only one of the reasons it finds its way into our Foot Cream, Foot Butter, and Athlete's Foot Oil. It also has deodorizing properties, which warrants its inclusion in our Deodorant, as well as the antiseptic properties.

With its ability to soothe and calm, it should come as no surprise that lavender is used in all our Coyote Pups baby products. But did you know that it's also an insect repellent? It's found in our Bug Off spray, oil, and lotion.

If after reading all this you have an insatiable need to inhale the heavenly scent of lavender, check out our Lavender Lotion, Lavender Sugar Scrub, Lavender Lip Balm, Lavender Rose Face Cream, Lavender Bath Oil...etc.
